Ruth Vera Withall è stata
premiata nel
concorso di acquerello "Crevalcore tra passato e
presente e futuro", organizzato dall'Università
Primo Levi a Crevalcore il 6 giugno 2010.
Ruth Vera Withall nasce a East
Retford, un ‘ancient royal borough’ nella famosa
foresta di Sherwood. Si trasferisce all’ University
of London, dove si è diplomata al Goldsmiths’
College of Art in arte figurativa, un corso con un
forte approccio didattico. Poi lavora come docente in
una scuola nel mezzo delle acciaierie di Sheffield -
smog e uno scenario da quadro di L. S. Lowry. In
seguito parte di nuovo per il Goldsmiths’ College per
un masters in pittura, studia con Constance
Howard e ottiene anche un diploma nell’arte del
ricamo. Un ritorno al Nord, un altro po' di smog, e
finalmente decide di trasferirsi in Italia. E da
parecchi anni risiede e lavora a Bologna.
Ha partecipato a varie manifestazioni artistiche in
Inghiterra e in Italia. Predilige i giochi di luce,
i bei colori, ha un occhio attento per la
decorazione ed un ‘feeling’ per ciò che costruisce
un bel quadro – si esprime con qualsiasi materiale –
pittura murale, olio su tela, acquerello, materiali
poveri, carta straccia, ‘torn paper work’, cera,
stoffa - quello che trova sotto mano.
Fa parte del gruppo L’Officina dell'Arte di Bologna.
Abita e ha lo studio in via Mascarella 42, Bologna.

Ruth Vera Withall comes from the ancient royal
borough of East Retford on the edge of Sherwood
forest. At Goldsmiths’ College of Art, London
University, she acquired her artistic training, with
a didactic bent, which carried her off to a teaching
post in a school in the middle of the steel works in
Sheffield. Plenty of smog, and a scene out of one of
L. S. Lowry’s painting. Subsequently she returned to
Goldsmiths for further qualifications, was lucky
enough to study with Constance Howard and took her
City and Guild exam in embroidery. Back to the smog
of the north again; and finally off to the city of
Bologna, where she has lived and worked for many
years.
She has participated in shows in England and Italy;
and with sensitive use of light, clean colours, a
keen eye for decoration, and a sixth sense for what
makes a good picture, she expresses herself in any
material – wall paintings, oils, water colour, torn
paper work, collage, candlewax, glue, wrapping paper,
anything that makes a picture.
She works with the group L’Officina Dell Arte di
Bologna, and lives and paints in Via Mascarella 42,
Bologna.
